NATE Statement on Senate Commerce Committee’s Inclusion of IMPACT Act in Comprehensive Endless Frontiers Act Legislation

(Washington, D.C.) – NATE: The Communications Infrastructure Contractors Association today released the following statement following the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee’s passage earlier this week of the Improving Minority Participants and Careers in Telecommunications Act (IMPACT Act) as part of the Endless Frontiers Act:

“NATE: The Communications Infrastructure Contractors Association is excited that the IMPACT Act was included as part of the comprehensive Endless Frontiers Act, which ultimately passed the Senate Commerce Committee this week. The advancement of the IMPACT Act is another key step forward in the process to ultimately help address the telecommunications industry’s workforce shortages by establishing a federal grant to promote the development of telecommunications education and job-training programs at minority institutions. NATE continues to applaud the leadership of Senators Wicker, Sinema and Scott as they usher this legislation forward in the U.S. Senate,” said President & CEO Todd Schlekeway.

Entities eligible for grants under the legislation are principally Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Tribal Colleges and Universities, or minority-serving institutions. These schools would be required to partner with industry or an organization with experience providing workforce training to the telecom industry, to develop programs to ensure that students have the skills needed for the workforce.
