NATE Applauds Introduction of Streamlining and Investing in Broadband Infrastructure Act

(Washington, D.C.) – NATE today released a statement on the introduction of the Introduction of Streamlining and Investing in Broadband Infrastructure Act in the United States Senate.

The proposed legislation, introduced earlier this week by U.S. Senators Steve Daines (R-MT), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Cory Gardner (R-CO) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), is designed to cut red tape for companies, states and local governments who want to install broadband infrastructure on federal land. The act also supports the “dig once” concept to ensure states simultaneously install broadband conduits as part of certain federal transportation projects that involve building a new highway or adding an additional lane or shoulder.

The comprehensive bill also establishes a “standard fee” to streamline leasing agreements when wireless broadband infrastructure is built, installed and maintained on federal land. The measure instructs agencies that possess federal land or infrastructure to grant a real property interest to applicants, including states, wireless carriers or other organizations seeking to install communications facilities.

“NATE enthusiastically supports the Introduction of Streamlining and Investing in Broadband Infrastructure Act and applauds U.S. Senators Daines, Klobuchar, Gardner and Gillibrand for their initiative in introducing this legislation,” said Director of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Jim Goldwater. “NATE’s membership consists of companies encompassing all layers of the diverse wireless infrastructure chain and this common-sense legislation would expedite broadband deployment and resolve many of the frustrations the industry continues to experience regarding delays to the siting process,” added Goldwater.
