Membership Committee Update
Let me start out by welcoming the following new members:
Dynamic South Inc.
Northern Tower Connections, Inc.
Penn-Tech International, Inc.
Stallone Electric, Inc.
Tower Inspection, Inc.
I recently read an article placed on the Tower-Pro site regarding the clash of views over U.S. military actions in Iraq. The story told how a Korean War veteran in his seventies stood his ground in support of America's mission overseas in the face of a much younger protester.
A scuffle ensued between the veteran and the protester, and it was reported in the local press. The part of the story that really caught my attention was that once word of this incident hit the streets, phone calls started pouring into this veteran's home from military personnel expressing their gratitude for this veteran?s dedication to the brave soldiers who defend our nation. Most of these calls were fielded by the veteran's wife, who was very impressed by the outpouring of support for her husband's actions.
Regardless of your views on the war, you have to admire the elderly veteran for standing his ground, and the support shown by his modern-day counterparts currently serving our country and putting their life on the line every day.
This camaraderie instantly made me think of the relationship I have experienced during my time in NATE. NATE is a brotherhood where what we do stands for something. Everyone?s input is welcome, and we all work together to do what is right for the greater goal of safety in the tower erection industry.
NATE has developed safety practices; provided continual educational sessions; established a positive and effective working relationship with OSHA; created better communication between suppliers of products and services and the companies who depend on those items; developed safety resources; and provided guidelines that eventually became a federal directive. None of this came easy. But it happened because people from this industry were committed to a greater goal and supported one another along the way.
I am proud to be a member of NATE and proud of what our association has accomplished in such a short span of time. I hope you share these feelings about our association and will look for opportunities to tell other companies about the value of joining NATE. It is easy to complain about how things ought to be, but when we work as a team, we can accomplish great things.
