In the ever-changing world of today?s economy, it is nice to know that you belong to a group of dedicated people; a group who takes matters into their own hands; a group where your opinion does matter and that your voice will be heard. You are a member of the National Association of Tower Erectors.
This past year has been hard on many in our industry. I personally have seen a number of companies come and go, whether the cause is the economy, tragedy, and/or politics. I wish for this industry to become united, thus my new affiliation with the NATE Membership Committee, I joined to grow, help out, and be part of something great. I encourage you, the member, to reach out and do the following:
Tell everyone you meet, do business with, and work with about NATE. Let them know of the membership benefits and how the Association has helped you. Members are the front line of recruiting, and we should all encourage companies in our industry to join.
Also, voice your opinion about areas of concern and interest. Write to your Board of Directors. Tell them how you feel about issues that affect you and the industry. The board is set in place to listen to concerns and interests, and address these issues.
Be sure to vote. Elect someone in the industry who is going to define the next two years; someone who has as much to lose and gain as you; someone you can relate to. Choose a proven leader who will take this industry and make it the standard by which all other industries are compared.
Implement a safety plan that works for you and your company. Select a plan that follows all the guidelines set forth by OSHA. Have a plan ready in the case of emergency so that everyone goes home at the end of the day. Make sure your employees have the training and knowledge to conquer all problems that may arise.
Take advantage of NATE partnerships with Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. in the area of insurance, and Seyfarth Shaw for legal counsel. These services are provided to NATE members.
Display the NATE logo as much as you can on letterhead, vehicles, clothing, in your office, etc. Be proud of the industry you are in and the association you belong to.
Be sure to attend the NATE Annual Conference & Exposition in February. This is the place to be to update yourself on all the happenings in the industry. It will also allow you to inspect and purchase the newest equipment specific to the industry.
In closing, The National Association of Tower Erectors (NATE) is an organization where people define the industry, an organization which I am honored to be a member and take much pride in being on the membership committee.
