Hello (overworked) NATE members. Are you trying to be everything for everybody? We all attempt it at one time or another with the same old exhausted feeling of not being appreciated enough for our Herculian effort. Even after realizing the futility of keeping up that illusion we still slide back into the same old rut which eventually only lets more people down.
It is currently a very busy time for our wireless construction trade, which puts an overload on all facets of our lives from home and family to work and money. The only non-professional advice I can lend is not to dispair because you can get back some control.
Stop for just one short minute, look at your current place in the world and where you want to be. Let others know if you need a break or that you need help. When you say those words out loud for yourself to hear, things will change for the better immediately. Those that you have asked for assistance will admire you for your fortitude to realize a change is needed. How else would they know that you are being stretched too thin if you don't communicate it?
As you get older (and hopefully wiser) your own priorities will become easier for you to recognize as heavier responsibilities are requested of you. This leads me towards my slam dunk finish of reminding you how important your NATE membership is to your industry and to you, which thusly trickles down into your everyday tower life. The NATE membership, including myself, cares how you are and that you and your employees make it home at the end of each day or project. We also want to be able to increase the likelihood of you getting home safely for another ten, twenty and thirty years from now like I have had the good fortune to do. So stay connected with NATE, your industry family. The NATE committees have many new things “in the mill” and “on the burner” to use in the next year -- so stay tuned!
In closing, we had great meetings in Watertown, South Dakota at our NATE Summer Conference. A big thank you to our entire NATE Administrative Staff who did a spectacular job with coordinating, planning, and pulling off all aspects of our meetings. Wow!
Till next time, stay smarter than the tower!
