NATE Public Service Announcement "It's Up TO YOU!"
On Tuesday, November 11 at 11:30 a.m. CST, Don Doty, Chairman of the NATE Board of Directors, hosted a webinar to unveil NATEs Its Up To You Public Service Announcement (PSA), a first for the tower industry. The Its Up To You PSA is groundbreaking in that a number of companies, regulatory groups, families of the fallen, and others have come together in one message about the importance of safety. This webinar brought individuals throughout the tower industry together to view the PSA for the first time. It reminded viewers that safety has to become the only way to operate in the industry - a singular focus for us all - at all times on the job site.
To view the PSA please download the file onto your computer and then view through Windows Media Player.
Creating a culture of safety requires constant dedication from everyone involved in the tower industry - from the CEOs of the tower owner, carrier or broadcast company, down to the tower climbers themselves. One of the first steps to establish a safe work environment is to ensure that only the most qualified contractors end up on job sites.
But safety doesnt stop there; safety must be emphasized every day, from the beginning of the project to the end.
How do you play a role in protecting the safety of the men working aloft?
And what can you do to ensure that established safety standards are lived up to by all parties involved in the aspects of site management, construction, installation and maintenance of your tower sites?
With thousands of tower sites across the nation, how can you be sure that your tower site and the employees of the contractor working on your site remain as safe as possible?
These questions and more were answered in a Web cast that aired on Tuesday, October 7 at 2 p.m. ET hosted by the National Association of Tower Erectors (NATE). Don Doty, Chairman of the Board of Directors for NATE, provided insight, shared best practices and answered questions to keep safety top of mind throughout all phases of the project … from beginning to end.
In this webinar we addressed how to:
- Evaluate your site to ensure that recommended tower owner safety practices are being followed;
- Understand the value of hiring a qualified contractor;
- Evaluate contractors to determine if they are qualified to conduct your job professionally and operate safely;
- Understand what questions should be asked of prospective contractors regarding site safety plans, a competent person on site and the proper use of site signage;
- Establish an emergency action plan that delegates specific responsibilities to individuals on-site.
